While we’re being nostalgic about the Wu, peep this shit. Unkut.com posted up this recording of Ol’ Dirty Bastard, Method Man and Rza from the Wu-Tang Clan taking calls from fans on Tim Westwood’s show on Radio 1 in ’97; about a month before Forever dropped. The result is almost 20 minutes of straight comedy from the clan – witty unpredictable talent and natural game for sure! Peep Rza’s response to that dude’s request for a record deal, classic!
This weekend just passed, Ghostface Killah of the Wu-Tang Clan blessed New Zealand with his first live performance in the country; only the third original founding member of the Wu-Tang Clan to come to our shores. He played at the Powerstation in Auckland with Shaun Wigs and Du Lilz of Theodore Unit and tore it down! Suffice to say it was one of the illest shows I’ve been to. But this ain’t no gig review, this is the story about how I DJed for Ghostface Killah… yeah, you read that right, I DJed for Ghostface Killah, no bullshit! How did this come to be? Allow me to explain…
The following is my recollection of the events leading up to and including my DJ set at the Ghostface Killah after-party and is the god-honest 100% truth! Give me five to ten minutes of your time and I’ll give you an entertaining read. Read the rest of this entry »
“Hi haters, I’m back off hiatus.” Apologies for the lack of updates recently, my excuse? Can’t think of a good one…
Moving on though, the following is the first video from Breakin’ Wreck representer Tyson Tyler’s forthcoming album Reality Cheque. The joint is called ‘Monstars Ink’ and I believe it is produced by Yorel (correct me if I’m wrong). The video follows a LARPer* dressed in a stone gollem outfit wandering around Onehunga and One Tree Hill.
I like the joint but I’m not sold on the video, my main gripe is that the song has a dark menacing tone to it that I felt was absent from the video. In the video the stone gollem is portrayed as a friendly but lonely and possibly depressed character who wanders around Onehunga with no apparent purpose. I reckon stone gollem terrorising the streets of Onehunga, kicking over trash cans and handing out ass-whoopings to ill-fortuned passers-by would have been more fitting. That’s just me though.
Also, Ty-Ty’s recently relaunched his blog over at www.tysontyler.com, head over there to stay updated about what he is up to.
While everyone else has been buzzing about XBOX 360′s forthcoming motion-sensing control “Project Natal”*, I’m buzzing about this announcement, Super Mario Galaxy 2 is coming! We’re suckers for a good game of Mario around here and no doubt we’ll be hibernating with the Wii this one when it comes out. Yoshi will be playable in the sequel, and can be inflated to float to new areas. Other than that there doesn’t appear to be any other major news or a release date relating to the title yet, but for now you can peep this video from IGN.
*Personally, I’m reserving judgement on this new XBOX 360 motion control shit until I see it in action (much like DJ Hero), I need to be convinced that it will work the way its ‘sposed before I get excited.
This is the “new” video from Flowz for his joint ‘One Step Away’ featuring Chong Nee and Tones from his album In The Heart Of The City. I say “new” with a grain of salt because I have vague memories of seeing this video once before at a gig that Flowz performed at a few years back. I believe the gig was 4 Corners’ album release party at Rising Sun back in late 2007, I also remember Dave being highly intoxicated and giving one of the greatest and most comedic performances of his career at that gig too, good times. Anyways, back to the point, peep the video. Chur.
UPDATE 3 June 2009:Tony “Tones” Costa passed away on Monday 1 June 2009. Rest in Peace.
Charles Hamilton overstepped the line in this lil’ battle of wits and got brought back to reality by this chick who I assume wasn’t too pleased about him joking about abortion. See the video below to peep the circumstances that lead up to the punch that was heard alloverthehiphopblogosphere.
The following is the brand new video from State of Mind and Tiki Taane for their joint ‘Kinetic’. The video is a mix of Justice’s infamous ‘Stress’ video and a furry porn. I can’t imagine this will get much if any play on TV, and I’m sure you will understand once you peep it. Oh yeah, and it’s potentially NSFW…
Rosenberg sums up this episode perfectly “this is gonna be one of the most epic Juan Epsteins of all fucking time”.
Red and Meth are on their promo grind for their new album Blackout 2 and caught up with Rosenberg and Cipha Sounds on their Juan Epstein podcast. Busta Rhymes pops up later in the piece and shit started to get really interesting, they discuss some hip hop trivia that you probably haven’t heard before. This is a great episode, peep it!
I haven’t had the opportunity to peep the new Red and Meth yet either, so any assistance would be appreciated
Sam Wicks gave me the heads up about a Savage feature he produced which documents his recent return to Samoa. No doubt an interesting listen and an awesome opportunity for Sam to head to sunny Samoa under the guise of “work” . The program airs this Saturday on Radio New Zealand at 4.10PM (repeat on Friday 22 May at 7.30PM). Hit up the RadioNZ website for your local frequency or streaming options.
Can you please give it up for Savage!
Samoans are a proud people, and a source of that pride in recent times has been the Stateside successes of South Auckland’s own, Savage.
His single ‘Swing’ has now clocked up 1.8 million sales and counting, and the upward trajectory of his career has brought his label Dawn Raid Entertainment back with a vengeance.
In ‘I Love the Islands’, Sam Wicks rolls with director Chris Graham and Samoan rap royalty to the islands, as they shoot the video to Savage’s new single ‘I Love the Islands’.
