Detox, the forth-coming album from Dr Dre, is one of the most anticipated releases at the moment. The rumours surrounding the album have ranged from the mind-blowing to the laughable. Depending on who you talk to, the album is being mixed in 5.1 surround sound, there are 12 songs (each one named after a detox step, “Intervention” for example) and the guests include every single artist he’s ever worked with. How ever this album turns out, it’s going to be huge.

Below are two songs that are supposedly Detox throw-aways. It’s almost common knowledge that Dr Dre doesn’t write his own rhymes. These two songs feature Aftermath-affiliated MCs, rapping the verses they have written for Dre so he can learn them.

Dr Dre – It’s Like That (Prophet)

Dr Dre – Say Dre (Crooked I)

I used to have a few similar tracks for The Chronic 2001, if anyone has them hook a honky up.

Here’s an old internet favourite that I always find myself coming back to. Kinda like the Star Wars Kid or All Your Base.

Someone has written fan fiction based on Roc-A-Fella Records. The great thing about these stories is that they were started in the heyday and continued on til around the time Jay-Z signed Nas. It’s like a varitable time-line of what happened with Roc-A-Scenes. Obviously having an imagination and brief knowledge of people signed to the ROC helps.

I was reminded of it while reading someone complain about how Game’s next album will be full of name-dropping. Check out this episode where Jay invites Game to discuss the beef that was brewing.

Or, start from episode one, not exactly the best one but it sets up the running joke about Bleek pretty nicely.

Say what you will about Busta Rhymes, dude has staying power. There was a time when he was the ‘go-to’ guy for remixes. If you Busta was on your remix, you were set. Check out any remix in the late 90′s/early 00′s. My favourite appearance would have to be KMD’s “The Nitty Gritty Remix”.

Then I feel he sort of lost his way as an artist. An aging rapper who struggled to find his ‘persona’, if you will. Fast forward to now and while I’m not buying Busta albums, I definitely check for any interview or appearance he does. He has been dishing out truth all over the place. Whether it’s the Aftermath Studio session video explaining the finer points of the music industry or this gem below. Busta has somehow re-invented himself as the Yoda of showbiz.

Check out this video of Busta calling out a British fan who calls him ignorant because he wouldn’t take a photo with them. Busta is hilariously on point.

Probably revealing my geek card here, but one of my favourite books of all time is Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson. This book was written in the 80′s and came up with such crazy concepts as avatars, Second Life-esque software and Google Earth.

One thing in the book that seemed completely outrageous to me was bionic dogs. In the book a company took in abandonded dogs from the SPCA and used their brains and part of their bodies to create super robot dogs. Pretty hard to believe right?

Boston Dynamics is working on a mechanical dog that is 100% next level. Check out the part when it walks on the ice. As soon as this thing becomes self-aware, we’re all fucked.

If you ever opened up the cassette deck and put your fingers on the spools to slow down the music, chances are you’ll love this. DJ Ramsey scratches tapes. Absolutely hilarious with the body tricks but still.

This technique provides a pretty good solution to dj’s without the budget to buy serato. Just tape all your favourite mp3′s and away you go.
