… not Hov. After taking all the correct entries, placing them in a hat, and picking out a winner at random: The double pass to the Serato 10th birthday party goes to Mr Dave Roebeck. Thanks to all you folks for your entries, there was plenty of them – however very few of them actually had the correct answer – LOL.
There are currently 3 Serato Scratch Live interfaces on the market.
Please forward all complaints about the question on to Nick, he masterminded it. Regardless, we hope to still see all of you there as it shall be an occasion not to be missed. Mean!
After much speculation marketing mastermind P-Money has unveiled what the countdown was for and has upped a beat-tape of all new P-Money instrumentals. Great for those who wanna vibe out, or MC’s needing something to spit on. Boom.
Some of you cool guys in the know might have already been aware of this but Mary J Blige is to perform in Auckland (at Vector Arena) and Wellington (at the Town Hall) in June. Pretty mean. I wonder if she’d be able to pack out Vector? I could imagine a lot of old heads turning up and I know I’ll be there. NZ Herald link here.
On a related note, what’s up with this supposed Boyz II Men concert in Auckland? The man Slick told me about it, but I can’t find any tickets for sale as yet.
Mary J Concert Dates:
Auckland, June 16th (a Monday!?)
Wellington, June 17th

Scrap whatever early evening plans you had if you’re in Auckland City tonight, and be on High St from 6pm onwards. ABC will not only be launching their collab sneaker with Lakai, the skate team will be shutting shit down with a demo from them and some of Japan’s best skaters in the Expertise team. 41 will be coming out of hiding to spin, and I’ll be there to pull out some exclusives from my album. It’s gonna be mean, see you’s there.
Heads up if you didn’t know this was going down in Auckland this Saturday. Perfect opportunity for us more financially challenged folk to beef up the wardrobe with some heat. See you’s fullas there.
This story from Campbell Live last night had so many parallels to Jonah Takalua’s Polynesian Pathways programme, whaddyareckon?
Don’t know how many Atmosphere fans there are out there, but this one has been pretty interesting for me. Atmosphere have an album coming out this month and to promote it they have created a series of youtube videos called “Paint it gold”. They have asked people to send in questions and they answer them each week. Most of the questions, acting and production value has been lame, but I thought this might be of interest to the artists out there. I would love to see a New Zealand artist do a similar thing.
People are using the internet to create a buzz for their forth-coming releases. There are so many different ways to do this; whether it’s the intentional leak of a record, emotional blogs, or what Atmosphere has done here.
Or you could go the traditional route and send your CD to magazines – Just don’t try anything too tricky.
Say what you will about Busta Rhymes, dude has staying power. There was a time when he was the ‘go-to’ guy for remixes. If you Busta was on your remix, you were set. Check out any remix in the late 90′s/early 00′s. My favourite appearance would have to be KMD’s “The Nitty Gritty Remix”.
Then I feel he sort of lost his way as an artist. An aging rapper who struggled to find his ‘persona’, if you will. Fast forward to now and while I’m not buying Busta albums, I definitely check for any interview or appearance he does. He has been dishing out truth all over the place. Whether it’s the Aftermath Studio session video explaining the finer points of the music industry or this gem below. Busta has somehow re-invented himself as the Yoda of showbiz.
Check out this video of Busta calling out a British fan who calls him ignorant because he wouldn’t take a photo with them. Busta is hilariously on point.
