Suga Pop on The Music Mix

Suga Pop

Speaking of Sam Wicks, he has put together a cool feature on world renowned dancer and musician Suga Pop which will be broadcast on The Music Mix on Thursday night. I remember, when I was a bit younger, my mates who were into b-boy shit were in total awe of Suga Pop (what’s up Cruchan!) because he’d apparently spent some of his youth in New Zealand before heading to the US and cracking it - consequently dude is a bit of a legend round these parts. Conveniently Dave is Pop’s cousin, so he did the interviewing.

It’s gonna be broadcast on Radio New Zealand National this Thursday night after the news at 11PM, peep this link here to find your local frequency.

*smh @ America

Tuesday, October 21st, 2008

I wish I could say I’d been following our election as much as the U.S one, but I can’t. Our one just lacks the entertainment value and sheer WWF-ness of our American counterparts, which is actually a good statement on the average intelligence of our country. I recall wondering how it was even possible for someone like Palin to be considered for a mayoral role, let alone a fucken vice presidency .. but then you watch vids like this and it all makes sense LOL. It buzzes me out trying to imagine some of the U.S candidates in our election, and how they’d fare with the NZ public. I’d like to think we wouldn’t be having it.

Hore Pie

Man, if you live in Christchurch start looking under your couch cushions for gold coins right now cos Georgie Pie is coming back - but only temporarily. Tomorrow - Sunday September 28th - a bakery at 475 Papanui Rd in Christchurch will be set up just like an old Georgie Pie restaurant and they’re gonna be slanging all the old mince & cheese etc favourites. Word is that it’s a gold coin ‘donation’, so none of that $1.20 bullshit the restaurant tried to pull in its later days, just a dollar - or 2 if you’re feeling generous. Apparently two Broadcasting School students are filming a documentary on the rise and fall of the restaurant chain, and this thing tomorrow is part of it - they even have an original Georgie Pie food technologist onboard with the o.g recipes haha. I also read that there will be prize giveaways too of shit like Sega Master Systems and Atari consoles. Mean. After the recent announcement that Sparkles, Tangy Fruits and Snifters will no longer be made, this temporary Georgie Pie resurrection thing is pretty timely, so if you’re in the area go show some love.

Oh and does Foodtown still make the Georgie Pie pies? I haven’t bought a pie from a supermarket in how long.

What the hell is the Spanish Olympic basketball team up to with this photo?? Doing slanty eyes for an Olympic shoot? Man, saaaad guys. Read more about it here. It would seem Spain is about as non-PC as it gets - remember the Lewis Hamilton racial taunts thing in Spain? Where’s their Olympic spirit?

Ruben Wiki

Yesterday’s match between the Warriors and Wests Tigers marked Ruben Wiki’s 300th game in the NRL and I just wanna give props to one of league’s greatest ever players and to quote Tofiga on Off Work, “a role models in the gommunity”. The game yesterday was a fitting way to mark the occasion because the venue, Leichardt Oval, was where Wiki made his debut for Canberra (with their U-23s) and the coach of Wests, Tim Sheens, was Wiki’s coach at the Raiders when he first started. Since his early days with the Green Machine, Wiki has gone on to achieve a lot. He has the record for the world’s most capped test player (55), is the most capped NZer in the NRL (300*), is only the 10th player ever to play 300 NRL games and 1st Kiwi, was part of the 24-0 tri-series hiding of Australia, won a premiership with the Raiders in ‘94, has captained his country and club, was named in the all-time Kiwi team, and was made an Officer of the NZ Order of Merit for his services to rugby league. As well as his achievements on the field, Wiki has been a role model off it, renowned as an all-round good guy and inspiration to young Polynesian players in the NRL, and has been involved in anti-violence and healthy eating campaigns to name just a few. Personally I’ve always looked up to Ruben Wiki, and along with Tana Umaga, he’s made me proud to be Samoan, even if I am only 1/4. So yeah, shot Ruben, congratulations on the feat and I hope your teammates can get you into the playoffs in your final NRL season because you deserve better than a 12th place finish!
