Unfortunately Nas’s upcoming New Zealand tour has been “postponed” because his album “Nigger” has had it’s release date pushed forward to December. The gig will be rescheduled for late April/May 2008, no new dates have been announced yet.
I can’t say I’m surprised by this announcement, Mickey Mouse promotion is beginning to become the norm down here, Roc The Bloc, D2D and now this gig are evidence of that. I hope that it is actually postponed and not cancelled
So the Good Vibrations 2008 (Aussie music festival) line-up has been announced and there is a truckload of Hip Hop up in there:
Kanye West
Cypress Hill
A-Trak & Kid Sister
K-OS
Pharoahe Monch
E-40 Peep the rest of the line-up at Central Station.
We already know that Monch is coming to New Zealand, but with that amount of hip hop cats being in such close vicinity to NZ I’m hoping that we get to see a few more. While I’m being a rumour-monger, a little birdy told me Kanye West and Common are gonna come here in February… oh yeah, and I heard rumours of Dilated Peoples in January too. More on that when I can dig up some more info, call me David Hartnell.
I had to come out of my self-imposed exile for this one, my mate Al filmed this video at Slum Village’s Fu show on the weekend… with his phone wtf?
*just in case you’ve been wondering where I’ve been (‘cos I know you really care, haha) I’ve been in exam and assessment hell, I feel like I’m in a big bubble of stress, but I’ll be back in the real world again soon…
Cheers to SilverWHK for the heads up, it seems the rumours are true Pharoahe Monch will be playing at Splore next year, 8-10 February. The idea of camping out with a bunch of hippies for three days has never appealed to me so I’m quietly hoping that Monch does a show on the side in Auckland.
I’ve heard from a reasonably well-informed source that Monch will be bringing his entire band with him too!
So the first BDO 2008 announcement was made this morning, I usually associate these announcements with memories of disappointment from previous years because I’ve been quietly waiting for years for the Wu-Tang Clan to come but it will never happen. The two acts that interest me so far are RATM and Dizzee Rascal, special mention to Young Sid too, see the rest of the announced acts below…
Bjork Phoenix Foundation Dizzee Rascal LCD Soundsystem Rage Against the Machine Arcade Fire Cut Off Your Hands Battles Billy Bragg The Clean Whitebirds and Lemons Grinspoon Motorcade Young Sid Hilltop Hoods SJD Paul Kelly Katchafire Antagonist Shihad
Rumours are circulating that Nas will be performing in Auckland at the Logan Campbell Centre on November 29th. I hope these rumours are true because I’m keen as to see Nas live. As soon as I get confirmation or more info I’ll post it up here…
As previously reported Slum Village are heading to Auckland for their first show in New Zealand, fellow Detroit rapper Phat Kat has also been added to the bill. What this may mean is that they may not be performing with drums and keys as initially announced. They’re really emphasising that “doors open 9:00PM” so I’m assuming this may be an earlyish gig (more…)
Kanye popped up unannounced at one of JT‘s LA concerts yesterday and tore it up with a performance of Stronger. Let’s hope that JT brings someone just as hype with him for his Auckland shows, if not Kanye then T.I. maybe… please?
The entire BWW camp are embarking on a national tour to promote their new album with DJ Substance on the wheels of steel. See flyer above or TV ad below for dates…
