rocboys

… not Hov. After taking all the correct entries, placing them in a hat, and picking out a winner at random: The double pass to the Serato 10th birthday party goes to Mr Dave Roebeck. Thanks to all you folks for your entries, there was plenty of them – however very few of them actually had the correct answer – LOL.

There are currently 3
Serato Scratch Live interfaces on the market.

Please forward all complaints about the question on to Nick, he masterminded it. Regardless, we hope to still see all of you there as it shall be an occasion not to be missed. Mean!

loaded-tour-poster_resize

Scrap whatever early evening plans you had if you’re in Auckland City tonight, and be on High St from 6pm onwards. ABC will not only be launching their collab sneaker with Lakai, the skate team will be shutting shit down with a demo from them and some of Japan’s best skaters in the Expertise team. 41 will be coming out of hiding to spin, and I’ll be there to pull out some exclusives from my album. It’s gonna be mean, see you’s there.

Sirvere Sessions 7 March @ Fu

Yo, Sirvere’s doing a marathon 7 hour DJ set tonight at Fu consisting of 14 themed half hour sets, it’s a pretty cool concept. I’m most impressed by the pizza break though, pizza in a club, brilliant.

Pharoahe Monch Auckland Show

Thursday, February 7th, 2008

So by now many of you would have heard that Pharoahe Monch is playing free show on the side in Auckland tonight, however the downside is that it’s invite only. I know you are all gonna hate me, but yep, I am one of those peeps with an invite, I’m simultaneously stoked and disappointed ‘cos some of my best mates who are Pharoahe fans can’t come. If it’s any consolation though, I hear he’s only playing three songs, haha.

Also my good friend Aroha had an impromptu interview with Pharoahe today which I’m gonna play on Trueschool tonight, so tune in for that.

And here’s that video that our mate Andy Morton did for Desire

F**k Off Louie

The bro Louie Knuxx is cruising, so everyone who’s in the Auckland vicinity 2moro night should head along to Rising Sun to check him out before he leaves for Melbourne. There’s a whole bunch of quality acts on that performance list so should be good times for all. Shotthen would like to wish the best of luck to Knuxx for his future endeavours in Oz. Mean.

Last of a dying breed

Last of a dying breed invitational @ Space bar on Friday night

While we’re on the topic of freestyle battling, the DMN crew have put together another invitational MC battle which is going down this Friday night at Space bar. Wannabe MCs, don’t let the “invitational” part put you off, DMN have a rep for putting on no-nonsense hip hop parties so I can imagine that there will be cyphers by the toilets or out the front for all the uninvited MCs.

DMN will also be dropping into Trueschool tomorrow night to plug the gig and no doubt drop one of their infamous freestyle sessions so make sure to tune in for that. For more info check out the thread on HHNZ.

Ethical live at the Block Party

Thursday, November 22nd, 2007

The fourth installment of Eth’s video blog, this one includes footage from his performance at the Urbanology “Block Party”. That night was really cool, the emphasis was on playing whatever we felt like so I was playing early ’90s hip house and booty bass only minutes before Eth and Neesh did their thing. Ethical has announced that the release date for his forthcoming ‘Ages Turn’ album is april 7 2008, and to expect ‘Talk of the Town’ on radio and video within the next two weeks.

Oh yeah, shout outs to Shot Then too, woohoo, we must be doing something right :)

*also who gassed? Someone dropped their guts during Eth’s set and Truce Lee had a disgusted look on his face LOL

Big Day Out 2008 second announcement

Kool Keith aka Dr. Octagon

The second batch of BDO announcements were made this morning, there’s a couple of  new hip hop additions including some from outta left-field. Local additions include Scribe, no surprise there, and Dam Native have been added to the bill only days after their first live performance in a long time, Rimoni said that the gig was awesome and you can check out photos at his blog Clickclickclickclick. Two announcements that took me by surprise are Dr. Octagon with Kutmaster Kurt and Aceyalone. I’d be pretty keen to see crazy ass Kool Keith, I recall reading recently that he was gonna record an entire album about feces, lol.

New additions to BIG DAY OUT 2008: Spoon, Brand New, Anti-Flag, Carl Cox, Kate Nash, Shy Child, Enter Shikari, Operator Please, Unkle (live), Krafty Kuts & MC Dynamite, Die! Die! Die!, The Nightwatchman (Tom Morello acoustic), Dr Octagon with Kutmaster Kurt, Aceyalone, Op Shop, Pluto, Scribe, Liam Finn, Tiki Tane, Havoc*, Collapsing Cities, Bleeders, Supergroove, The Checks and Dam Native

See the BDO website for more info.

The Block Party @ Fu 17/11/2007

My boy Substance is having his final Urbanology gig at the old Fu before they move premises up to Albert street, see flyer above. Speaking of which, I was digging through the photo gallery on Fu’s website and came across some photos of myself that made me feel old, there’s even what appears to be photographic evidence of my one-off stint DJing for the Fast Crew, lol.
