The genius of Jan Terri

Sunday, October 12th, 2008

After unearthing the brilliance of Jan Terri’s hit single “Losing You” yesterday I went on an investigation to find out more about the creative genius behind the greatest music video ever made. I discovered the following video article from 2000 on the Daily Show. As you’ll find from the video Jan Terri is no one-hit wonder, she has recorded several hit songs with amazing visual accompaniments such as “My Little Brother” and the chilling “Get Down Goblin”

The best music video ever made

Saturday, October 11th, 2008

When I’m hungover and bored I tend to surf the net looking for stupid shit to keep me entertained. Today I think I have found a rival to “It’s so cold in the D” for the best music video ever made, enjoy…

kia kaha he reckons

Hooooly shit, how has this gone under the shotthen radar ?  “Forever Strong” is a film based on the Highland high school rugby team, 17 time U.S national champions. These dudes obviously don’t fuck around, they even wear black canterbury jerseys and do the haka. Phenomenal.

Props to Fire & Ice for the hookup.

this looks tight

This trailer for Watchmen is apparently showing at all the screenings of The Dark Knight (which also looks tight - out this week). Some of you would have seen the Watchmen graphic novels floating around various stores. Can’t say I’ve ever read them myself but I recall my flatmate trying to put me onto them and he tends to know what’s what.

Kidnap that fool!

Haha man I love these shits. My boy Jay linked me this up today, it’s one of those vids where a song is synched up to a cartoon (or puppets in this case), and all sorts of funny things match up and hilarity ensues. This one here is Bert & Ernie “performing” M.O.P’s banger Ante Up. After the jump are two more essentials of the genre.

Scratch Out Your Eyes

Friday, May 30th, 2008

The New Zealand edition of Star In Their Eyes started just over a month ago, to be honest I wasn’t that interested in watching it until I read this scathing review which said that the show was basically shit, there was an “appalling lack of talent” and that the worst performers were winning - that’s exactly the kinda television I live for. So I finally got around to checking it out this past Tuesday and it was everything I dreamed it would be, fucking shocking, I loved it!

Emmeline Pitcher

Meet Emmeline Pitcher, contestant from episode 6, she is a solo mother of two from Hamilton, she sold her home to pursue a career in music and became a professional “singing telegram” (LOL). She performed “Turn Back Town” by Cher, it was fucking terrible and her outfit was outright vulgar. Anyways, it was pretty clear to me that she didn’t have a fucking hope of winning this shit, especially since there were some fairly spot on impersonations of Amy Winehouse and James Taylor on the same show… well whaddyaknow she won, haha, she’s gonna be in the grand final, can’t wait.

Here’s a link to her winning performance: Emmeline Pitcher as Cher ’Turn Back Town”

old school playas to new school fools

Ho-ly, who has seen the new Rambo ? I had the pleasure of watching this the other day at my brothers house and it was outrageous. I don’t even know if I’d call it good or bad, all I know is it somehow warped time whilst I was watching it and this 90 minute movie felt like it was only half an hour long. That’s a special feat in these post-L.O.T.R days where even the makers of Spiderman think it’s all good to make 3 hour extravaganzas - it isn’t, and the sooner they stop that shit the better.

Back to the movie though, I was never a Rambo kid. I’d say it was before my time, but I’m familiar with Arnie movies of the same time period so I don’t really know why I haven’t watched any of them being that Commando and Predator (especially Predator), are my sheeeeit. Subsequently, watching this movie gave me no nostalgic value whatsoever. What it did give me was 88 laughs at the violence/gore depicted in it. I’d say spoilers ahead but who gives a fuck ?

Poker Stars

where my dogs at

I don’t know if you’ve noticed this phenomenon, or if perhaps it has occurred because myself and the circle of friends I have are getting older but damn - it seems like EVERYONE is playing poker right now. Whether at home with mates, online, or down at the weekly poker comp at the pub. I’d noticed over the last 3 years people I knew were starting to play and the invites for a game were occurring more frequently, but being that I didn’t have any money I figured it was a waste of time. I also didn’t give a fuck about cards - only games I could play were Fish and Last Card, can’t do no tricks, and my shuffling sucks.

However a week or 3 back the lure of poker reached critical mass as even my sister was having people over for games. “Dont you know how to play Hold Em ? I thought you played in your video ?” - WTF I thought, this is embarassing. Later that week I added Texas Hold Em Poker as an app on Facebook just so I could ‘learn to play’. 6 hours and a couple Full Houses later and I’m already thinking “I should start playin for real money”, so I can totally see how people get addicted to this shit. I’ve got friends who I put onto the Facebook version that are already playing for real loot on Poker stars, and on a night in H-town the other week me and Slick stayed up watching Poker on ESPN till 5 am. I always wondered who the fuck would watch that shit when I’d see the ads on tv - as it turns out, it’s people like me :P

Anyways for those folk that play let us know the deal/where you’re playing at. Let’s get a shotthen poker club going, and oh yeah join the shotthen Facebook group if you’re up on there. Play on playaaaaa.

I’m not sure how many of you are familiar with this website but I thought I should at least give it a plug considering how much time I spend on there myself. It’s basically an internet TV channel. It has a bunch of original shows made specifically for it which you can stream. Kinda like MTV Overdrive - but good. As you can imagine, the benefits of not having to adhere to TV broadcasting standards are numerous(swearing is good for you - true story).

I religiously watch a show called Epicly Later’d which is intended to be a show for skate-nerds, but I’ve found most people I’ve showed it to are fascinated by the personalities they profile on it. It’s just a really interesting show, which apparently MTV now want to pick up. That’ll probably turn it to shit but it’s good that it gets a chance to be seen by the masses.

What I thought might be of particular interest to you guys though would be the ‘Spike spends Saturday with‘ series which is a show that’s basically Spike Jonze(of video director, Being john malkovich fame) spending a day with a person/artist of his choice. Chatting about whatever he feels like. There’s currently a 5 part episode with Kanye West, and a 6 part one with M.I.A. I just watched the Kanye one and it’s the shit. Check out the first episode below.
