Video: Flowz ‘One Step Away’

Saturday, May 23rd, 2009

This is the “new” video from Flowz for his joint ‘One Step Away’ featuring Chong Nee and Tones from his album In The Heart Of The City. I say “new” with a grain of salt because I have vague memories of seeing this video once before at a gig that Flowz performed at a few years back. I believe the gig was 4 Corners’ album release party at Rising Sun back in late 2007, I also remember Dave being highly intoxicated and giving one of the greatest and most comedic performances of his career at that gig too, good times. Anyways, back to the point, peep the video. Chur.

UPDATE 3 June 2009: Tony “Tones” Costa passed away on Monday 1 June 2009. Rest in Peace.

Sonic loses his rings

Sonic loses his rings

Charles Hamilton overstepped the line in this lil’ battle of wits and got brought back to reality by this chick who I assume wasn’t too pleased about him joking about abortion. See the video below to peep the circumstances that lead up to the punch that was heard all over the hip hop blogosphere.

Video: State of Mind & Tiki ‘Kinetic’

Friday, May 22nd, 2009

The following is the brand new video from State of Mind and Tiki Taane for their joint ‘Kinetic’. The video is a mix of Justice’s infamous ‘Stress’ video and a furry porn. I can’t imagine this will get much if any play on TV, and I’m sure you will understand once you peep it. Oh yeah, and it’s potentially NSFW…

Red, Meth and Bussa Buss on Juan Epstein

Red, Meth and Bussa Buss

Rosenberg sums up this episode perfectly “this is gonna be one of the most epic Juan Epsteins of all fucking time”.

Red and Meth are on their promo grind for their new album Blackout 2 and caught up with Rosenberg and Cipha Sounds on their Juan Epstein podcast. Busta Rhymes pops up later in the piece and shit started to get really interesting, they discuss some hip hop trivia that you probably haven’t heard before. This is a great episode, peep it!

I haven’t had the opportunity to peep the new Red and Meth yet either, so any assistance would be appreciated :)

Savage RadioNZ Feature

Savage 'Savage Island'

Sam Wicks gave me the heads up about a Savage feature he produced which documents his recent return to Samoa. No doubt an interesting listen and an awesome opportunity for Sam to head to sunny Samoa under the guise of “work” :P . The program airs this Saturday on Radio New Zealand at 4.10PM (repeat on Friday 22 May at 7.30PM). Hit up the RadioNZ website for your local frequency or streaming options.

Can you please give it up for Savage!

Samoans are a proud people, and a source of that pride in recent times has been the Stateside successes of South Auckland’s own, Savage.

His single ‘Swing’ has now clocked up 1.8 million sales and counting, and the upward trajectory of his career has brought his label Dawn Raid Entertainment back with a vengeance.

In ‘I Love the Islands’, Sam Wicks rolls with director Chris Graham and Samoan rap royalty to the islands, as they shoot the video to Savage’s new single ‘I Love the Islands’.

Tyga

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

Like most, I first came across Tyga via his single “Coconut Juice”(pause) early last year. The video was lavish, and as he was/is signed to Young Money/Decaydence  – it featured cameos from Lil Wayne, Fallout boy’s Pete Wentz and his cousin Travis from Gym Class heroes. The song was admittedly rather cheese, but no more so than everything else which was going on at the time.  Combined with the star power cosigning him I figured hearing much more of that song and him would be a no brainer.

It was not to be though, and until Jordan showed me this a couple months back I thought he’d disappeared off the planet.  “Live Forever” caught me offguard, with Tyga’s flow sounding reminiscent of some mid 90’s New York shit. In fact his get up even looks like something Shyheim woulda worn.

Now he’s back with a new vid, and he seems to be distancing himself even further from the pop lane they initially tried to carve out for him. Still goin hard, but the content and video is L.A all day on this one. Mean shit, don’t write him off just yet.

Ok, we’ve all seen the photos – if you haven’t… your internets is pretty weak. I don’t really have anything to say on the matter, this is a matter of public opinion. Cast your votes and weigh in with the comments.
