Go Joe

Of all the toy franchises of my youth, there was probably none that I played with more than G.I Joe. I liked Masters of the Universe, Transformers, Voltron etc.. but there was just something about those little G.I Joe figures – the way the joints could all move, the little rubberband thing in their core that would snap if you twisted it too much, the fact they were small and cheap so you could actually have a decent amount of them. They were just the shit.

Then there was the vehicles…. man, the fucken vehicles. I’d be asking Mum for what seemed like a year in advance for some of them shits. Subsequently, I’ve wondered why they haven’t tackled the idea of making a G.I Joe film earlier. Unlike the other 80’s franchises, G.I Joe seems like a relatively easy one to cash in on – they make army/war shit all the time. Seems much simpler than trying to tackle films about 20 foot transforming robots etc. Anyways, this trailer looks cute and I’m catching it regardless.

On another note, check this list of the 20 stupidest G.I Joe Vehicles ever and count how many you owned. We had 4 of them, and funnily enough the first one my mum ever bought me is #1 on the list. Well done mum.

Props to F&I

Holy shit @ the Aircraft Carrier.

Haha, we had #6 as well. Sounds like everyone had it.
#12 – H.A.V.O.C was my favourite of all time.

Bahaha I had that Sgt Slaughter tank too. I also had Destro and his stink ass flying machine thing – that shoulda been on the wack list. This kid I knew back in the day took his GI Joes so serious that when he played “war” with them and one would “die” he’d bury it in his backyard haha, muthafucka had a cemetery of fallen GI Joe soldiers, no lie.

Do you remember collecting tokens and posting them away to get the windsurfer?

Man, you guys had some awesome stuff. All I had was (I think) the badger (http://www.yojoe.com/vehicles/91/badger/badger_box.shtml). My main use for my G.I. Joes was “rock climbing” up the wire mesh container thing that held all my toys. The G.I. Joe hands would perfectly snap onto the wires.
