NRL Fantasy League

fantasy team

The new NRL season is nearly upon us, so being a rugby league Stan I just joined up to the NRL website’s fantasy league. Got my team all sussed and feeling good about the upcoming ’season’ haha.

For the unitiated, fantasy leagues are common amongst most major sports (Super 14, NFL, NBA, MLB etc). Basically, the deal is you’ve gotta put together a team of players from within the comp, in this case the NRL, making sure they all fit underneath the salary cap. As the season progresses, the players you choose then earn points for your team after each round. The points are accumulated based on a range of stats — metres gained, tackles made, tries scored, try assists, line breaks etc.

If you’re an armchair coach and this sounds like you, sign up for the fantasy league here. Remember though, it’s not about who your favourite players are, it’s about who’s gonna earn you the most points. Once you’ve registered, come verse me and some mates in league number 294165 – The T-Knux Cup. My team’s The Cousin Harolds.

Turntablism on crack!

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

There’s a perception that turntablism is strictly for geeks, this video doesn’t help… but fuck me if this ain’t some cool shit! The video below is the world premiere of the “fretless fader” which allows you to change notes using the crossfader, pretty neat. For you non-geeks out there, there’s also some brilliant singing thrown in the mix, enjoy ;)

…should check out this mean Gorilla Zoe track with Young Dro called Break it Down. The beat is kicking my ass. Believe my system at home is getting a thorough workout playing this one. Click Sloth to download and check it out… and if you’ve got a version minus the DJ choppin’ it up, don’t be a holdout, link it up in the comments section. Shot.

Go Joe

Thursday, February 5th, 2009

Of all the toy franchises of my youth, there was probably none that I played with more than G.I Joe. I liked Masters of the Universe, Transformers, Voltron etc.. but there was just something about those little G.I Joe figures – the way the joints could all move, the little rubberband thing in their core that would snap if you twisted it too much, the fact they were small and cheap so you could actually have a decent amount of them. They were just the shit.

Then there was the vehicles…. man, the fucken vehicles. I’d be asking Mum for what seemed like a year in advance for some of them shits. Subsequently, I’ve wondered why they haven’t tackled the idea of making a G.I Joe film earlier. Unlike the other 80’s franchises, G.I Joe seems like a relatively easy one to cash in on – they make army/war shit all the time. Seems much simpler than trying to tackle films about 20 foot transforming robots etc. Anyways, this trailer looks cute and I’m catching it regardless.

On another note, check this list of the 20 stupidest G.I Joe Vehicles ever and count how many you owned. We had 4 of them, and funnily enough the first one my mum ever bought me is #1 on the list. Well done mum.

Props to F&I

8-bit Hip Hop medley

Wednesday, February 4th, 2009

N.E.S are the letters that spell...

My boy Jay put me on to this. If this doesn’t make you wanna jump on some goombas, warp through sewer pipes or punch bricks to get coins then you must be too damn young. Props to Jesse Tugboat – the man behind the 8-bit goodness (thanks to all those that pointed that out in the comments). Check the tracklist after the jump if you can’t work out the songs.
