Upper Hutt Posse on The Music Mix
Sam Wicks has hit us again with another cool hip hop feature on his radio show The Music Mix on Radio New Zealand National. This week is the 20th anniversary of the release of Aotearoa’s first hip hop record, Upper Hutt Posse‘s “E Tu”, to mark the occasion Wicks spoke to Te Kupu of UHP and key members of the local hip hop community about the importance of this record.
Twenty years ago, Upper Hutt Posse released the kaupapa-driven single ‘E Tu’, a release that has the distinction of being Aotearoa’s first rap record.
The Music Mix marks the anniversary of ‘E Tu’ by speaking to Te Kupu, the voice behind the Posse, and talks to key members of Aotearoa’s hip hop community about the impact and influence of the politically-charged track.
