Who would win?
Yeah, so now that the US election is done and dusted how ’bout that New Zealand one, eh? Our one lacks the hype of the US election but I suppose it’s still important, ha. Our candidates are for the most part pretty unappealing visually and I haven’t heard any inspiring speeches as yet, to be fair though the US election has been getting far more coverage here than our own one so maybe some Tina Fey impressions took precedence over some of our shit, lol. I’m a little undecided about what to do with my party vote eh, this MMP system requires a bit of thinking, in some ways it would be much more convenient if our elections were like the US ones, you only have two choices and it’s pretty much good versus evil. It’s not as clear cut here, ‘cept I know with absolute certainty that Rodney Hide is an cunt, so he can play the bad guy, fuck him!
I have a rough idea of who I’m gonna vote for but I’m not the most politically aware dude so if some of you guys wanna spout some shit in the comments section (anonymously if you prefer) that might aid in my decision making that would be cool. Even better if you could break down who the goodies and baddies are like the US that might make it a hell of a lot easier too.
Maybe we could one-up the US and start a movement to elect the first Maori Prime Minister of New Zealand… Winston Peters. He’s also a cunt though, so I s’pose he should be on the baddies team too, but at least he’s funny…
Thoughts guys???

Rodney is on the same side as John
So if Rodney’s a baddie then John’s a baddie too.

How come you didn’t list Taito Phillip Fields party… sad guy

Yeah, I’m not really feeling Key eh. This is where it’s gets a bit grey for me though, see from what I understand is National is centre-right and and Labour is centre-left so there’s not a lot between them. I don’t really like John Key’s idea of borrowing money to fund tax cuts though, it just sounds dumb.
Can anyone fill me in in the Maori party, I honestly dunno where they stand…

^^ poll daddy limits the options to 10 so I chose the one’s that looked familiar. There’s a couple of parties that got left off as a result The Bill and Ben Party and the New World Order were among them. A thousand apologies to the supporters of those parties.

I don’t like most of John Key’s policies but he seems like an alright guy. Last night’s leaders debate was super weird though. A regular love-fest.
I was all ready to vote for Unite Future but then they alligned themselves with National. Stink balls.
Thinking of either Labour or Maori Party. I think that the Maori Party have been pretty awesome in this term. Their behaviour surrounding the breach of the electoral laws was amazing compared to the other parties.
Probably no help for your party vote, and no help if you don’t live in the East Bay electorate, but here’s my break down of the local candidates: http://eyeonkope.blogspot.com/2008/11/general-election.html
Shot.

From what i’ve gathered, the Maori parties policies include:
1. Abolishing the doll (they belive it holds Maori’s back)
2. Removing GST on food (This would be killer!)
3. Increasing minimum wage to $15
4. NO INCOME TAX on the first $25,000

Theres not just two choices in our election, theres a bunch of other people running, its just that they are pretty much ignored by the media and, well, everyone. lol.
November 7th, 2008 at 11:44 am
^^ yeah, that’s true, but the way the US election system is set up basically makes it a two horse race anyway.
