Mary J to perform two dates in NZ
Thursday, May 8th, 2008Some of you cool guys in the know might have already been aware of this but Mary J Blige is to perform in Auckland (at Vector Arena) and Wellington (at the Town Hall) in June. Pretty mean. I wonder if she’d be able to pack out Vector? I could imagine a lot of old heads turning up and I know I’ll be there. NZ Herald link here.
On a related note, what’s up with this supposed Boyz II Men concert in Auckland? The man Slick told me about it, but I can’t find any tickets for sale as yet.
Mary J Concert Dates:
Auckland, June 16th (a Monday!?)
Wellington, June 17th
Today!
Wednesday, May 7th, 2008![]()
Scrap whatever early evening plans you had if you’re in Auckland City tonight, and be on High St from 6pm onwards. ABC will not only be launching their collab sneaker with Lakai, the skate team will be shutting shit down with a demo from them and some of Japan’s best skaters in the Expertise team. 41 will be coming out of hiding to spin, and I’ll be there to pull out some exclusives from my album. It’s gonna be mean, see you’s there.
“if you’re lookin for me man I’m in the ATL”
Monday, May 5th, 2008The weekend just been one was a good one for music, in that it yielded 2 great songs from 2 of the ATL’s biggest stars. The ever improving Young Jeezy continues the roll he’s on as of late (“I’m so hood remix”, “Dey know remix”, “Superstar remix”, “Love in this club”) and impresses me yet again with possibly my rap song of the year thus far. “Put On” feat Kanye West in Lollipop mode is the fucken shit, point blank period. This shit makes me want to go out and start a riot… and win. If that even makes sense ? Turn that shit up if you feel like triumphing over the odds.
Young Jeezy feat Kanye West – Put on
T.I.P on the other hand has returned with a track that on first listen reminds me of a country ballad. If country ballads were mean that is. I was a bit ehh bout the beat at first, but the shit has grown on me and the lyrics are where it’s at with this one. Heartfelt and defiant, this is some more inspiring shit. Again, turn it up if you feel like triumphing over the odds. Fo realz.
“Believe me pain’s a small thing to a giant, i was born without a dime, out the gutter i climbed, spoke my mind and didn’t stutter one time, Ali say even the greatest gotta suffer some time”
I like dem ameries, you can have dem amorosa’s
Thursday, May 1st, 2008There’s certain artists you just like straight off the bat. Sometime’s they’re not neccesarily that amazing or skilled but they’ll have some intangible quality that catches your interest. Could be something a little different in their vocal tone, a special way they drag out their words, a different sense of humour in their lyrics, or it could be the fact that they just look cooler than the rest. I guess that’s what we call X-factor.
Anyways, for me Currency (da hot spittah) is one of those artists. I first heard him with Lil Wayne on the track “Grown man” off the Carter 2. Though the track was cheese, Currency’s nonchalant flow and lazy voice caught my attention. Since then I’ve heard him here and there on various Wayne mixtapes and being that he was signed to Waynes Young Money label I assumed we would be seeing him in a similar capacity to what T.I has done with Young Dro. I like Dro for a lot of the same reasons as I like this guy so by that logic I would have thought Currency would have had some burn by now, but after this vid for “Where da cash at” – nothing.
Unfortunately it appears he was no longer seeing eye to eye with Young Money and he’s departed the label to fuck’s with pro skater/perpetual funny cunt Terry Kennedy in the group Fly Society. I don’t know if that was the best move being that Weezy just hit that #1 spot with Lollipop (*smh), but oh well – better to be with a less reknowned team and be pushed, then be with a powerhouse and never come out. No Aftermath. I been listening to a few joints off his new mixtape and I’m feeling them. Especially this shit right here, though he doesn’t have the lyrical dexterity displayed by the late Frank White on the O.G, his swag is in full effect and he has some amusing lines to say the least. Spittah.
