is the dream really saigon

Tuesday, December 11th, 2007

I think I’ve discovered the reason behind the constant delay of Saigon’s The Greatest Story Never Told… under the pseudonym The Dream he’s chosen to focus on a career in R&B after the huge success of Shawty is a 10.

The DreamSai-Giddy

Dry jokes aside, they look similar as hell ay? And will Sai’s debut album ever see the light of day or what? Maybe when Detox comes out, The Fugees reunite and 2Pac comes out of hiding.

battling_g.jpg

I know battling is considered rather un-cool by a lot of folk these days. At least here in NZ, but I still thought I’d take the opportunity to plug this shit to anyone who’s not up on it already. For the uninitiated, Jumpoff.tv has been putting on an event called the World Rap Championships for the last 2 years. Basically a 2 on 2 acapella freestyle battle between a bunch of teams from all over the place. In previous years the divisions only included a couple of US cities and London in the UK. This year they’ve expanded it to include more cities, which has meant the addition of a Melbourne division(though it features teams from all over Australia). All the teams basically compete to win their division which in turn means a trip to the US wherever the finals are held and subsequently world battling glory.

Now I watched a few of the US battles last year and was rather amused/amazed at the skill of some of the competitors. This year however I havent even watched their division as I found the Aussie division captured all my attention. Perhaps I can relate to the Oz sense of humour better or something, but I would recommend anyone who’s even slightly a fan of rap battles to check some of them out. Anything with Prime/Purpose and Anecdote/360 is pretty good for a laugh. Shot Oz.

percieve_leaves.jpg

It appears our bro Percieve(though he never hollas at us) has a new video premiering on Juice TV tonight via the Coke Generator show. I stumbled upon this information on hiphopnz, so email us next time Pera… we have love for you. Despite his lack of skill on Fight Night, Percieve IS a skillful MC/producer and you gotta respect the DIY work ethic and hustle. So if you’re in the vicinity of the TV between 4-6 tonight, make sure you tune in and check the vid and interview. Songs called ‘Excuse my tears’ and is produced by our other bro Fortyone. Shotty.

Check more of Percieve here:

Ok, who’s gettin this on pay per view ? I just checked, Dec 9th 2pm on Sky box office. Whoever’s got snaps on it, I’m keen.

You really gotta love Boxing, there’s few other sports that give you that butterflies feeling you get in your stomach before the start of a big fight. It’s the epitome of HYPE. That’s the whole deal. Despite the fact you can associate professional boxing with so many ills of society … violence, corruption, gambling, arrogance. There still aint nothing like a BIG fight. For me, what it all comes down to is simple… characters. The shit is all characters. Some people liked Holyfield ‘the warrior’, the noble good guy. Others liked Tyson, the exciting off the rails lunatic. Thats why the Contender is so dope even to people who dont like boxing. You get insight into the life of the boxers and you find yourself identifying or sympathising with guys who you wouldnt neccesarily support if all you did was see their boxing prowess.

The upcoming Floyd Mayweather vs Ricky Hatton fight is another awesome example of this shit. Floyd is a loudmouth. A flamboyant, trash talking, ig’nant rap listening showman, and arguably the best pound for pound boxer in the world. He competes on Dancing with the stars and chills with 50 cent. Hatton in stark contrast, seems like a no nonsense working class englishman from Manchester. Apparently he enjoys football, playing darts and sipping Guiness at his local pub. Like Floyd he is undefeated(albeit against lesser opponents), and like Floyd he can also be a straight funny cunt at press conferences. I watched a bunch of these on youtube yesterday and the shit is just comedy. I’m psyched to watch this fight after all this. Check:
