So enjoy yourselves, stay safe over the holidays, and be sure to pop back in and see us when you’re out of beers or the SPF 30 is runnin low(smh @ the ozone).  Here’s to BIG things for you guys and us in the new year.

Xmas boredom has forced me to rank my 25 songs of the year (too many for 10, not enough too lazy for 50). I-I get it…

Revelations of the 07

Saturday, December 22nd, 2007

Lauryn London is a ten

This delightful dime has been inducing erections since Pharell’s “Frontin’” clip. This year she solidified her spot as hottest chick in the game in a slew of flicks, clips and men’s magazine spreads. Yes, shawty is a teeeeen, heeeeeey, a teeeeeeeen.

Alicia Keys and Kanye West are good as (formerly just good)

On their third studio LPs these two proved they are incapable of making bad music. I think people take for granted how rare it is for artists to make three great albums in a row (in hip-hop you can count them on two hands). Props to them for being the opposite of shit.

Lil’ Wayne is an overrated MC (at the moment at least)

Don’t get me wrong, Weezy is top 5 status in my books, but as usual with most MCs they don’t get their worldwide recognition till they’re past their talent apex. Mainstream media is waxing philosophical about some sub-par leaked joints, but in reality 05/06 Wayne > 07 Weezy by a shitload. His best performance was a song he didn’t even rap on.

MTV is madness

If you have Sky, you know 6-0 is the go to channel. Though some get mad they don’t play much music videos anymore, their shows are must watch shit, the same way you slow down and stare at a car crash scene. Where else can you see…

  • Billion dollar kids telling their mum to get fucked cause they got last year’s Phantom
  • Gay dudes telling a mother they wanna fuck the shit out her son… At 4pm.
  • The most popular bi-sexual on Myspace trying to pick a soul mate
  • Two ex’s bunting in a room, not knowing their current partners are watching
  • “Heeeee goooone!”

Andre 3000 is the best rapper alive

Jay may be Jordan, but he’s closer to 2000’s Wizards than 90’s Bulls at the moment. Partly influenced by Wayne’s 06 dominance, 3 Stacks dropped the Prince persona for a sec and started spitting again. The result was the 5 best verses of the year, hands down. Go three thousand.

Youtube runs my life

Whether it be Saigon riding his bouncer koala style or the “I Like turtles!” kid, Youtube provides subject matter for about 78% of my conversations and about 82% for overall entertainment consumption. “Some stay dry and others feel the paaaaain…”

Khaled is an annoying bastard

It all started when 41 pointed out to me the hilarity of Khaled holding the umbrella for Joe in the “Make It Rain” clip. I though it reached its zenith on the “I’m So Hood Remix” (Who? Weeeee nigga…. Im makin’ moo….. viiiies). But the true height of hilarity was Rick Ross’ “Speedin” clip (you mus’ be new or sumthin’ mehn…. We the best mehn….”). For the record “We The Best” was one of my favourites of ‘07.

Heads Up: Horsemen Family Summer Sampler

Thursday, December 20th, 2007

Horsemen Family

I popped into Beat Merchants on the way home from the library this afternoon and found a free four track sampler of material from the forthcoming Horsemen Family album amongst a stack of gig flyers, SCORE! I didn’t know about this sampler coming out, I’m not sure if it’s ‘cos I’ve been living in a bubble since I started my summer school study or whether this just hasn’t been publicised, so I popped over to the Dawn Raid site to find out more, it turns out that the Dawn Raid boys are handing these mixtapes out around malls over the next two weeks and that there’s an Aaradhna sampler too. So this is a heads up look for these CDs when you’re out shopping over the next few days.

new Dark Knight trailer

Tuesday, December 18th, 2007

We’ve been following this one for a bit, so it’s getting rather exciting now. Trailer looks dope, though I still hate how Christian Bale does ‘that voice’ whenever he’s Batman. Ledger is looking very Crow-like/insane. Choice. Props to LJM.

Video: M.I.A. ‘Paper Planes’

Monday, December 17th, 2007

Sweet, they’ve made a single out M.I.A.’s ‘Paper Planes’. This was my favourite joint from Kala, I guess it had something to do with the kids singing followed by gunshots, lol. Ok, gay I’m out…

*Oh yeah, on the topic of M.I.A., I once tried to start a rumour that her and Brooke Fraser were cuzzies (kinda like that one that Wishbone is Tongan), so if you heard about that you can blame me, haha.

Joey the cunt

joey.jpg

I didnt watch Shortland Street on Friday, but man, I KNEW this guy was the killer. He was just too much of an enigma not to be. Bowl haircut, looks like Jim Carrey in Dumb and Dumber, zero game with the women. Shit was clear cut, but at the same time I had my fingers crossed for a more shocking twist like the killer being Tanya or Libby or something. Saw this article on Stuff though and you gotta laugh at the serial/dumb cunts that are out there:

We have had a few strange incidents in the past. When a lot of suspicion was on Kieran, Adam Rickitt was attacked in Freedom Furniture by a handbag-swinging older woman who thought he was responsible for Claire’s death.

LOLz, get a life nana.

Anyways, My prediction for 08 is Joey continues his killing spree for a wee while till he is found out by Callum. Callum puts a stop to Joey’s antics with the quickness, then continues to walk the halls of Shortland Street hospital with more swag than everyone else combined.

If you haven’t already noticed Callum is a king amongst men on that lame show. His ability to act better than everyone else whilst simultaneously looking like he’s making fun of the script is too ill. Plus he’s slick, he’s only with Justine for the kids. He set Chris Warner up to sleep with his ugly wife just so he could have an excuse to punch him in his face. True story. What say you folk ?

dead_drive.jpeg
That’s the sound my hard drive was making this afternoon. A reboot later and it’s as worthless as the one in the above picture. Dead as bro, dead as. I’m gutted as it contained ALL my media. There’s perhaps some karma to it though as it was all pirated. Alas, I cant do the post I had intended to do today about song’s I liked this year that went a little under the radar, so umm.. here’s this new Janet Jackson song :P

I think it’s pretty decent stuff. It’s good that you can actually hear her on this as opposed to that last wack song with Nelly(wtf was that video too ?). The vocals are soundin robotic/autotuned, but who really gives a shit on these sort of songs ? The 4 to the floor beat means there’s probably gonna be dance/house remixes for days and I can see this going down well in the Viaduct and the gay club scene. Yay.

Janet Jackson - Feedback

p.s Didn’t really do a good job hyping this one up did I

Last of a dying breed

Last of a dying breed invitational @ Space bar on Friday night

While we’re on the topic of freestyle battling, the DMN crew have put together another invitational MC battle which is going down this Friday night at Space bar. Wannabe MCs, don’t let the “invitational” part put you off, DMN have a rep for putting on no-nonsense hip hop parties so I can imagine that there will be cyphers by the toilets or out the front for all the uninvited MCs.

DMN will also be dropping into Trueschool tomorrow night to plug the gig and no doubt drop one of their infamous freestyle sessions so make sure to tune in for that. For more info check out the thread on HHNZ.

Movies to hang out for ??

Wednesday, December 12th, 2007

Now that American Gangster has been on the net for 88 (is it out at the movies here yet ?) I’ve been trying to find some new movies to anticipate. Ya know, being that life is just a never ending quest for entertainment and all. I was drawing a blank though, heightened by the fact Fully Flared is now out, and Heroes Season 2 is finished cause of the fucking writers strike(just pay those cunts!). Bar Naruto Shippuden(last episode was rude) I have nothing to look forward to anymore, so I went for a look round to find something to get excited about. Here’s the results:

Machine Girl:
This sounded promising. Japanese girl taking revenge on the Yakuza with a chain gun for an arm. Watched the trailer though and it was on that Kill Bill, Dusk till Dawn O.T.T type buzz. And the production quality reminds me of the Deathnote movie which I thought sucked hard. Peep.

Speed Racer:
I dont really know why I looked into this being that the Speed Racer cartoon was always wack to me. It was one of those ‘I want to like this’ deals cause of it’s pioneering nature, and when Ghostface used it for the Daytona 500 video I thought I should be on it. I still never felt it, Racer X was the man though.

It looks like they’ve kept to the real colorful cartoon look, and from what I’ve read the Wachowski brothers said they wanted to make it a family movie. This could make it end up like Fantastic 4 i.e wack. But I’m not adverse to a good movie the kids can watch (The Incredibles, Pirates etc). Trailer looks pretty zaney, but they got some decent actors in Ricci and that cunt from V for Vendetta. Fingers crossed.

Ironman:
Saw this on Sirvere’s blog actually. This trailer looks fucken choice. Downey seemed like a wierd choice for Stark as I always looked at Tony Stark being the Marvel equivalent of Bruce Wayne. The rich playboy/eligible bachelor. Downey’s swag is at 100 in this trailer though, and the film looks nice and dark. Looks like we’re also gonna see the progression of the Iron Man suits too which is dope. Keen as to see how this one pans out.

Put us all up on some upcoming movies if you know of any, we need some entertainment in this bitch. Oh yeah, Fully Flared premiere tonight @ Rising Sun for you Auckland folk.
