Da Lep Ra Con

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

Whoa, this past week has been pretty intense for me, two assessments down and I’ve got one exam to go. I feel like I’ve been living in a bubble ‘cos outside of study I dunno what’s been going on in the real world recently, I’ve been studying pretty hard out with little break. When I have taken time off in the past few days, I’ve been watching the following two vids to loosen me up after hours of reading and writing, this shit never fails to crack me up. Shot to Askew for reminding me how funny this news report was!

I’ve heard that a lot of good beatmakers first start learning the craft by attempting to recreate other peoples beats. I’m sure that’s the case for wack beatmakers too, so a while back after Slick downloaded it, I started toying with Fruity Loops Studio. I’d used the program before but had always been frustrated with the piano roll cause I couldnt bang on it to work any melodies out, in the same way as you could with say.. a piano. So I was well stoked to see the Sytrus packs in this version which made it so you could bang on the computer keyboard like it was a REAL keyboard.(I’m sure there was probably ways to do this in the past but I’m a useless cunt)

Needless to say this was all the encouragement I needed to start making Chronic 2001 - The polyphonic version. I’d been keeping this heat in the stash for a rainy day, but I ended up sending a track to Jordan from Fire & Ice last night and was fortunate enough to be blessed with this heat from him.

It got me so inspired I’m opening up the floor right now for all you producer folk with too much time on your hands. Use the stock sounds in whatever program, keyboard/sequencer production thingy you’ve got, and remake a beat. Preferably something we know otherwise it wouldnt be very fun. Put it up on zshare, soundclick whatever, and put a link for us in the comments section so we can check it out. Good times

Apparently the cover of DJ Rah2k’s new Lil Wayne mixtape. Designer is looking for some controversy on this one, ha. Doubt Wayne has anything to do with it though, as he’s big upped T.I’s king-ness on numerous occasions. Read more here

Street Fighter 2 HD

Shot to James for putting me onto this. That’s a screenshot from the Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix(ha) they’re developing. You really need to click on the image to get an idea of how fucking glorious it is looking. See this blog for more. They’ve got some footage of it being played but it’s handycam from a distance so it just end’s up looking the same as normal.

To put this all in perspective, watch this vid and see how far we’ve come.

.. is probably my fave song off Jay’s American Gangster lp. I’ve skimmed over the whole album a couple times and I’ve come to the conclusion that I’m not crazy about it. That being said I like the second half of it way better than the first, and I prefer it to Kingdom Come. However I dont feel this album has anything as kick-ass as ‘Show me what ya got’ was. Still, I’ll put it in the car this week so I can really marinate on it and catch all the sharp one-liners.

Back to the song though, the reason I’m feelin this one is simple - Dope sample. Toomp apparently hooked this one up, and it’s some smooth shit. It took me a second to realise why it sounded familiar, then I clicked it was the same sample used in this mean Playaz Circle(nice to see they’ve got a buzz off ‘Duffle bag boy’) and Ludacris track from a little while back.  No conspiracy theories here, I like both these songs heaps so do yourself a favour and cop them for your summer chill outs.

…how we, fell in looooove” with this chick. Well, even if you didn’t, most adolescent males of the late 90’s did. Even resident poster/hater/label-owner LargeSmoke has a picture similar to this on his wall calender. And even though Britney Spears fell off harder than Christopher Reeves, shes just released an album, Blackout, that sounds like she used to look.

As D dot Versace prophesized, Im feeling the first single “Gimme more”. The album is for the most part produced by Bloodshy & Avant (Toxic) and marks Timbaland protege’ Danjahandz’s first substanial ammount of work on a release minus mr. mosley.  No, this isnt Thriller, or even Futuresex, plus the beats and subject matter have the diversity of a gumboot, but its still her best shit to date as she went 100% this route rather than this.

To keep it rap, heres the tracks from Danja and The Neptunes laced “Why Should I Be Sad”.

Britney Spears - Blackout (Danja and Neptunes tracks)

DISCLAIMER: Hip-hop heads/ears beware, this is still pop music.

top 5 unsexiest women

Kevin Spacey as Dr Evil

Maxim Magazine has compiled its list of the world’s top 5 least sexiest women. I can’t say I disagree with this list, although I feel sorry for Britney… she’s probably having the worst year in the history of any celeb. Who do you think would make a NZ list? I’m thinking Robyn Malcolm is up there.

    The top 5:
    1. Sarah Jessica Parker
    2. Amy Winehouse
    3. Sandra Oh (from Grey’s Anatomy)
    4. Madonna
    5. Britney Spears

Buddens deals to Ransom

Wednesday, October 24th, 2007

Ha, this is gonna be a quick one cause I was just bout to get in bed then i saw this up for download, so I hit it up with the quickness. Glad I did too, cause it’s pretty mean bo. To cut a short story shorter, former Joe Budden cohort Ransom from the A-team threw some shots at Joey yesterday on a track over Kanye’s big brother. Fast forward a couple hours and Joey has recorded this response over ‘Heart of the city’. Result - Laters Ransom. Too many quotables to name. Check this.

I had to come out of my self-imposed exile for this one, my mate Al filmed this video at Slum Village’s Fu show on the weekend… with his phone wtf?

*just in case you’ve been wondering where I’ve been (’cos I know you really care, haha) I’ve been in exam and assessment hell, I feel like I’m in a big bubble of stress, but I’ll be back in the real world again soon…
