Heres another hit…
Thursday, September 27th, 2007
Marc Ecko, the man behind the hideously out of fashion clothing label Ecko, is planning to donate Barry Bonds’ record breaking home run ball to the Hall of Fame with an asterix printed on it. Seems he copped the ball for 700 g’s and ran an internet poll to see what to do with it. Though it seems pretty obvious Bonds has been roid ragin’ for years, Im sure he wants to make Ecko’s head his next home run for being a smart cunt.

A mean interview from the enigma that was Tupac Shakur. Talks about Suge giving him 200 g’s for a soundtrack cut, wanting to sign Wu-Tang and Bobby Brown to Death Row East, and compares Biggie to Hitler.
Still one of the 3 greatest rappers of all-time (yes boy).
Video: the mint chicks ‘If My Arm Was a Mic Stand…’
Tuesday, September 25th, 2007I was linked to this video the other day, it’s a video for the mint chicks’ ‘If My Arm Was a Mic Stand…’ The video is directed by former 95BFM Jazz Show host Sean Grattan, the concept is pretty simple but effective, it mostly revolves around two little kids play-fighting with toy light-sabers and looks like heaps of fun. This reminds me of a video by the Whipping Cats which featured two people dressed up as cardboard robots attacking each other in Auckland domain haha.
*Also, while I’ve got your attention (totally unrelated), was anyone aware that Bic Runga gave birth to her baby about two months ago (July 20)? I remember reading about her pregnancy in the papers earlier this year but that news seemed to slip by pretty quietly…
Juice TV Awards 2007
Monday, September 24th, 2007‘Tis the season for music awards, I’m not sure when the Juice TV Awards nominees were announced but I was made aware of them late last week. The following are the nominees for Best Hip Hop Video:
NESIAN MYSTIK - Robbin Hood Heroes
SCRIBE - F.R.E.S.H.
YOUNG SID - Too Much Pain
PNC - Saturday Getaway
THE FAST CREW - What Happened To Yesterday
TYREE - Would You Mind
FRONTLINE - Lost In Translation
I guess they’re pretty loose with their interpretation of a “year” over at Juice TV ‘cos Frontline’s ‘Lost In Translation’ came out in June last year, taking my Frontline mangerial hat off for a second, I don’t think this video should have been nominated, it’s well over a year old, LOL. I’m sure Nick and Dave appreciate the recognition but are probably cracking up at the absurdity of it all, what would be even funnier was if they won, feel free to vote for them and expect a comedic acceptance speech.
OK, so assuming that voters are smart and wont vote for ‘Lost In Translation’ based on my above reasoning I think the hip hop category is really a two-horse race between PNC and Young Sid, although I do disagree with Juice’s video choices for each artist. PNC’s ‘Who Betta Than This?’ was a better song and video than ‘Saturday Getaway’ and Young Sid’s ‘Hood Like Me’, which was originally just some footage tagged onto the end of Tyree’s ‘Would You Mind’, was like the little engine that could and performed beyond everyone’s expectations, including his label. What chu guys think?
Oh, yeah check out the other categories nominees and details about how to vote at Juice TV’s website.
Worst album covers of the year
Friday, September 21st, 2007In the spirit of the forthcoming NZ music awards Peter over at Dub Dot Dash has compiled a list of worst local album covers of the year. Good call on that Hollie Smith album cover, that one was absolute shit.
Curtis 4 Prime minister
Friday, September 21st, 2007![]()
So we’ve all heard now that Kanye emerged victorious over Curtis in their first week sales race. I imagine Curtis must be feeling somewhat disillusioned with the game right now after being bested by the guy who had the ‘other’ verse on ‘The Bounce’ but such is life.
Though 50 lost the battle over there in the world’s largest music market. He can take consolation in the fact that over here in the world’s smallest music market(NZ) he’s fucken cracking it. Peep the RIANZ chart this week.
Top 5 Singles
- 50 Cent feat Justin Timberlake - Ayo Technology
- Kanye West - Stronger
- Akon - Sorry, blame it on me
- Sean Kingston - Beautiful Girls
- Sean Kingston - Me Love
Top 5 Albums
- 50 Cent - Curtis
- Salmonella Dub - Heal me
- Paul Potts - One chance
- Timbaland - Shock value
- High School Musical 2 - OST

Movies for the toothless
Thursday, September 20th, 2007Since I had ample free time and mad gigs left on my data cap this month, I decided to indulge myself in a bit of film downloading. It was actually difficult to think of something to download off the top of my head. I managed to think of one (A Bittersweet life) then had to resort to trolling around IMDB’s “if you liked this, you might like this” sections for any Asian flicks that appeared to have swords or guns. I’m cultured like that.
Results as follows:
A Bittersweet Life

This shit here was right up my alley. Slick cinematography, underlying proverb/moral theme, ‘cool as you like’ lead character, shady cunts, martial arts and guns. Mean. I reckon it’s probably more style than substance …. but I’m all for it when something’s this stylish.

Holy shit. Admittedly it’s my own fault for not trusting my first instinct when I saw that picture but fuck…. who sanctioned this ? I’m actually more angry at the cunts on IMDB who gave it favourable reviews. *SMH @ 7.1 rating overall . I couldnt get past 30 minutes of this before shift-delete’ing it up. Budget ass CGI (that Storm riders, Man called Hero type shit), corny acting, and the WORST.. and I mean fucken WORST choreography since David Carradine’s Kung Fu. Gimme my cap back you cunts.
Infernal Affairs

This is the film Scorcese ‘re-imagined’ when making The Departed. In laymens terms that means he jacked it, replaced Hong Kong g’z with Irish ones, and slowed it down. Painting things out more for the Yanks. I imagine seeing this first then watching The Departed might have felt similar to the way I feel watching the U.S Office .. but perhaps not. I prefer the pacing and the ending of this, but I preferred the characters in The Departed(Scorcese and co killed it on Wahlberg’s character). Really tho, if you’ve seen one, expect to be watching the other more for comparative purposes than genuine thrills.
So yeah, anyone who’s got any decent film recommendations holla at me. Next month’s cap starts in a couple.
“Put that on your fuckin’ blog nigga!”…
Thursday, September 20th, 2007says random goon #238, so I shall do just that. Seems Saigon and Mobb Deep got in a ruckus at some club. Im guessing its because of those disrespectful comments he made about them awhile back. Prodigy gets rocked, Saigon loses his watch, a mobb deep affiliate tries to vouch for him to no avail, Hot Rod makes an appearance, but the LOL moment of hip-hop this year has to be Sai riding his bodygaurd out the club like a baby koala. Class-ic.
Slum Village now joined by Phat Kat at Auckland show
Thursday, September 20th, 2007 As previously reported Slum Village are heading to Auckland for their first show in New Zealand, fellow Detroit rapper Phat Kat has also been added to the bill. What this may mean is that they may not be performing with drums and keys as initially announced. They’re really emphasising that “doors open 9:00PM” so I’m assuming this may be an earlyish gig
