Akon

So Akon’s recorded an apology to his wife (or is it wives), his mother, Gwen Stefani, the young skeezoid he “danced” with in Trinidad and an assortment of other people that he has wronged recently, there’s a stream of it at Smartenupnas. He’s offered to take the blame from everyone else and place it upon himself… sound like anyone you know?

It’s glaringly obvious that he does not apologoise to this young fan however…

I gotta admit I had Akon’s back during that Trinidad incident, I don’t condone pedophilia at all, but if you’re in a club that has age restrictions you gotta expect that the girls in there are of age – the security should have stepped there shit up. For all his flaws he can still pump out good music (*sometimes), without crazy experiences to reflect on his music would just be dull and lifeless…

***waits for the tirade of hate…

Baaaallinnn’

The best way to impress your ‘rap’ friends next time they come over for a Kristov and orange juice is with blinged out ice cubes. Because most of us can’t afford the real ‘ice’ why not settle for some flashy frozen water courtesy of homewares designer Fred.

Ballin ice

If you wanna ball to you fall I can help you wit’ that, $5.95US from Amazon.

Ridley, Russell, Denzel and .. T.I

Friday, June 8th, 2007

I’m a sucker for gangster films so this looks like the shit. However I did read that Ridley Scott is the third director to pick this project up after the previous 2 had escalating budget problems or somethin. Lets hope 3rd time’s a charm. Speakin of Russell Crowe, LOL @ his face when the Warriors scored that last minute try on his beloved Rabbitohs. Great actor , but fuck that guy.

The truth is finally out – in Kentucky

Friday, June 8th, 2007

Parents – are you tired of taking your children to museums where evolution is taught? Are you looking for a (and I quote) “Deluxe new alternative” to the history we teach?

Then head on down to Petersburg, Kentucky for your chance to be shown the true history of this great planet. See dinosaurs with Christian folk, watch them run hand in hand picking flowers and praying to the big man.
Oh, and don’t forget to check out Noah’s Cafe – for your fill of heavenly treats.

Seems like they’ve realized the answer is to hard to deny – so have had to come up with a very creative question.

UPDATED Find your own truth in pictures and now with a solid review.

The Truth Laid Out

Notice the heathen history takes the form of snake – god sticks to clip art…

Lyrical Gangbang #2

Friday, June 8th, 2007

Young Sid - Hood Like MeOh shit, another lyrical gangbang! This time it’s a remix of Young Sid’s “Hood Like Me” with K54, Flowz, Ethical, Louie Knuxx and Fizek. It’s been hyped for a while and we’ve finally got a sneak-peak at an early version of it, some of the transitions are a bit rough and it is not yet mastered but you get the idea, it’s currently up on Young Sid’s Myspace. MTC, hit me off with the mastered version when it’s ready ‘cos I wanna spin it on Trueschool!

The parallels between the Aotearoa rap game and the police group sex scandals is getting uncomfortable, expect to hear about another lyrical gangbang in less than 24 hours…

Lyrical Gangbang

Thursday, June 7th, 2007

PNC rounded up the bro’s to take turns on the mic for last night’s ‘Live At Yours’. The PNC Raptor was joined by Scribe, David Dallas, Young Sid, Louie Knuxx, Koma and Mareko onstage to perform the “Who Betta Than This” remix live. For those of you not fortunate enough to catch it on TV last night I’ve made it available for ya on the net.

Unfortunately, Young Sid’s (Smashproof/MTC) verse was cut from the song, I’m not entirely sure why, but I can imagine there is some logical yet totally gay (no discrimination) explanation for this like time constraints. If you wanna see the performance in it’s entirety with Sid’s verse (and I don’t blame ya) there’s a shoddy phone camera version on YouTube. While we’re on the subject Sid’s record label MTC has recently started a blog, check them out here.

PNC – Who Betta Than This? Remix featuring Scribe, David Dallas, Young Sid, Louie Knuxx, Koma & Mareko

*Speaking of rounding up the bro’s to take turns in a recorded performance, Debbie Gerbich, famous for giving up the ‘nany to a room full of old pasty white policemen and ambulance drivers on camera, has apparently been found dead.

The first listen

klaxons.jpg

We’re bombarded with new music nowadays. I in fact dedicate the start of my day to gettin on the computer and checkin out all my regular blogs/forums for whatever new shit has dropped, new album leaked, new mixtape, new remix, new videos etc.. whatever, its all good.

However I often wonder whether some of the songs and albums I discovered in the past which I love to this day would have slipped straight past me if they were to come out in this day in age. Albums like Mobb DeepHell on Earth’ might not have gotten past the initial ‘fuck this is pretty dark’ phase and might have gone straight to the recycle bin with the new Rich Boy album. Back then after I’d jus dropped 30 bucks, I knew I wouldnt be gettin no new music till Christmas or next Birthday(whichever came first). Hence there was no option but to throw that shit back in the CD player and bump it till I loved it.

And I feel enriched for that.

I often wonder with our increased fickleness and this digital revolution seemingly shifting us back to a single’s only world, whether we’re losing the concept of a ‘grower’. Albums and songs that you may not fully get on the first listen, but given the chance and the repeat plays they seem to become better and better. Whilst the whizz bang single you thought was the shit the first time round gets old real quick. Its interesting and Im not all too sure how I feel about it.

However this brings me to the point of this post; the first listen. That key point when you establish whether something is good, shit, or alright. Speakin for myself, the first listen is more important than ever. Being that I’m such a fickle cunt its extremely rare for me to hear something brand new and be like ‘wow.. that was the shit’. Songs that really kick your ass only come along once in a while, so when one does.. you gotta give it its propers. For me The Klaxons – ‘Golden Skans’ was one such song, anyone who’s visited my myspace will know I was so fond of it I even rapped on it.

I was fortunate enough to get sent a cover version of the song performed by a Mr Daniel Merriweather who you may have heard on that Mark Ronson – ‘Stop Me’ (Smiths cover) song which is killing shit right now.  I loved this cover on first listen and am still lovin it, it also did the good deed of reminding me just how much I like the original, now thats some beautiful shit.

Big props to Unknown, check out his sounds. Good cunt.

Fade To Black

DJ D-FormSo tomorrow night’s Trueschool Hip Hop show will be the last official broadcast with DJ D-Form. I have my last exam for this semester tomorrow too so no doubt I’ll be intoxicated and there’ll be all sorts of ruckus in the studio. I’ve pretty much planned nothing for tomorrows show but the best moments on the show were always unplanned so this one’s gonna be a corker.

From next week on the show will be hosted by myself, Mouli, and DJ Truent. There may even be some more exciting news in the near future but till then it’s secret squirells.

Tune in to 95bFM Thursday night 9PM to 11PM to hear young D-Feezy peace out the game…

For those of you outside Auckland there’s a live stream available from 95bFM.com.

D-FORM… GOOD CUNT!
