Some of my best friends are Maori…
Too busy to write my own shit today so I got myself a ghostwriter…
So TVNZ CEO Rick Ellis did the political equivalent of saying, ‘some of my best friends are black,’ yesterday when he listed examples of programmes that helped fulfil TVNZ’s charter obligation to provide a ‘significant Maori voice.’
Police Ten Seven, Game of Two Halves, Locked Down and Shorty Street were among the list, and he justified this by adding, these programmes are, by the way, very very popular with Maori (some of whom are his best friends).

In some ways, its good to have ignorant comments like these aired out in public – ‘cos everyone who isn’t white, knows that NZ is more racist than we’d like to admit, and when issues like these come out – all the racists come out of the woodwork. For example, ‘Oh good heavens. Save us from PC twaddle and stop TV programmes for one over-privileged and over-represented ethnic group.’
*lol @ Maori being an over-privileged and over-represented ethnic group… when did that happen?
People are getting mad about TVNZ getting tax-payers money to fund programmes that give Maori a significant voice… but really tho, they should be asking what the hell Rick Ellis is doing with this money -’cos if the programmes he’s listed are meant to fill the Maori quota – then it’s him who is wasting tax-payers money – not the ‘marrrri’. (and if these are the programmes he’s using the $$ towards to fill that quota, then – those complaining should be happy because technically, the marri quota is helping fund the rest of the populations general entertainment.)
…on an side note, disgraced MP Taito Phillip Field is likely to face charges of bribery soon, so if Police 10-7 could get that on tape, then TVNZ can have it’s Pacific Island quota sorted too. Mean!
