Big L’s legacy is not celebrated on the level of most deceased rappers. He never dropped a crossover smash single or a 5-mic’er, but he had the arrogant MC persona locked. L was a pioneer of the ‘eloquent-ignorance’ style that most of todays notable lyricists try perfect. On this posse-cut he wastes Lord Finesse and a young Jay-Z.

“Big L be lightin’ niggas like incense
Gettin men lynched, doing nonsense
Im killin’ infants for ten cents
Cause Im a street genius with a unique penis
Got fly chicks on my dick that dont even speak english
Im makin ducks shed much tears, I buck queers
I dont have it all upstairs but who the fuck cares?
Im grabbin brews takin fast swiggas
I get cash and stash figures and harass them bitch ass niggas
After you youre man’ll get scared next
And if ya squad flex, Im lettin off like Bernard Goetz
A tech nine is my utensil
Fillin’ niggas with so much led they can use they dick for a pencil
Im known for snatchin’ purses and bombin’ churches
I get more pussy on accident than most niggas get on purpose
I got drug spots from New York to Canada
Cause Big L be fuckin’ with more keys than a janitor”

It’s official music downloads will now be included in the New Zealand musicNZ Music Chart charts from this week, I guess that is a signal that the local music industry has finally recognised that CDs days are numbered. There was an interesting story on this on TV3 News tonight, local unsigned artists take note Mike McRoberts drops some knowledge…

It might be worth noting that anything you download from …shot then is not likely affect your favourite artists chart position, haha, only legal downloads contribute to the music chart so best to head over to online music retailers like Amplifier or Digirama etc for that.

EDIT: and TXTtunes eh Evader ;)

Kanye - Can’t Tell Me Nothing

The new video for Kanye’s Can’t Tell Me Nothing is out. It’s on YouTube but you can check out a good quality version at his website HERE. Despite it being a good song, Kanye being rich as fuck and it being directed by Hype Williams it’s actually a pretty underwhelming video… or maybe I’m not art-fag enough to appreciate a woman in a long flowing dress in the desert? What you think?

Skateboard P + Baltimore house music = Some hoe’s in this house

So i read THIS article over at MTV.com about Pha-real being psyched on the club music coming out of Baltimore(you know, that place where ‘The Wire’ is set) and how he’s used this influence in the new Twista single. Personally I know next to nothing about what this Baltimore scene sounds like . Apart from what I hear about the whole ‘Go go’ Rich Harrison sound originating from there, and what I heard on this GREAT dj funk ditty I downloaded a couple months back. Funnily enough when I heard the aforementioned Twista single it made me simultaneously think of both. I dont know whether it was cause of my own preconceptions, but regardless.. apart from Twista’s rapping I rather like this song. Check ..

Twista feat Pharell - Give it up

DJ Funk - Theres some hoe’s in this house

(p.s Can someone please play that DJ Funk track in the Met and alert me beforehand, k thanks)

(p.p.s On Saturdays Code is like the first scene in Blade 1)

Un-Release Yo’ Delf

Sunday, May 27th, 2007

P-Money released his new album “Unreleased Joints & Remixes” this week, so I caught up with him to quiz him on his thoughts about unreleased music and so on. He even played us some beats that I can guarantee you’ve never heard before… unless of course if your name is say Scribe or umm Kanye West…

Some of my best friends are Maori…

Thursday, May 24th, 2007

Too busy to write my own shit today so I got myself a ghostwriter…

Stereotypical MaoriSo TVNZ CEO Rick Ellis did the political equivalent of saying, ’some of my best friends are black,’ yesterday when he listed examples of programmes that helped fulfil TVNZ’s charter obligation to provide a ’significant Maori voice.’

Police Ten Seven, Game of Two Halves, Locked Down and Shorty Street were among the list, and he justified this by adding, these programmes are, by the way, very very popular with Maori (some of whom are his best friends). (more…)
